Spiral router bits have milled angled flutes that spiral around the circumference of the bit, which provides more efficient chip ejection. Take advantage of what spiral bits have to offer: Very clean cut, less vibration, better plunge-cutting, direct chips up or down, and longer edgewear. The up cut spiral design provides outstanding control with hand or table routing. When creating a dado, this design brings chips up and out of the cut. Upcut bits are good for blind holes where you want the chips to be removed up and out of the hole. This motion can also cause the top surface to splinter up, creating a chipped surface. If you are working on the edge of a piece of wood, an upcut spiral bit will create a nice and clean bottom edge.
