Calculating Diamond Blade Costs

Figure out how to calculate cost per inch-foot when purchasing diamond tools, why it matters, and the benefits of purchasing KLINGSPOR Diamond Blades! Join our Diamond Tool Product Specialist, Nikolai, as we help you figure out the lowest cost possible per inch-foot. He also explains the methods for measuring diamond blade longevity and evaluating operational costs.

Measuring Blade Life

Blade life is measured using two primary metrics: linear feet and inch feet. Linear feet represents a straight line of cut, regardless of the cut's depth. Inch feet is a more precise calculation for high-usage scenarios, determined by multiplying the length of the cut by the depth of the cut.

Calculating Costs

For frequent users, the primary goal should be achieving the lowest cost per inch foot rather than focusing on the initial purchase price. This cost is calculated by dividing the total price of the blade by the total number of inch feet cut. Premium diamond blades generally offer a lower cost per inch foot compared to economy blades.

Operational Variables and Safety

The actual lifespan of a blade is influenced by several factors, including the hardness of the aggregate, whether the cutting is performed wet or dry, and the skill of the saw operator. Applying excessive force to the saw can decrease the blade's life or cause it to glaze. Given the high RPMs involved in cutting, safety is a critical priority. KLINGSPOR products are manufactured to meet standards set by the Organization for the Safety of Abrasives (oSa). All blades are clearly labeled to provide accountability, which helps users identify the manufacturer and ensures safety compliance.
